What is IPL?

Patients who feel concerned about the appearance of dark spots or sun damage may be good candidates for intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments. A photofacial with IPL is a rejuvenating treatment for pigmentation concerns on the neck and face. During this treatment, we use intense wavelengths of light energy to encourage the natural healing process and increase collagen production. Over time, you should begin to notice a healthier complexion, a more even tone, and fewer pigmentation issues. Although a photofacial is a noninvasive process, it can provide excellent results for your face. At Flawless Salon and Medical Spa, our Butte, MT medical spa team uses the Harmony XL PRO laser from Alma Lasers to perform IPL skin treatments. We can examine your skin during a complimentary consultation and determine if this solution can help you achieve your skin goals.

How much does IPL cost?

Every patient's case is unique, which means the cost of IPL therapy will vary based on individual goals. Occasionally, Flawless Salon and Medical Spa runs special deals, and we take a range of payment options. During your initial visit, we can help estimate your treatment pricing and explain the number of visits needed to help you reach your goals.

How quick are the results from IPL?

You can usually experience some changes after one Harmony XL PRO IPL session, but the best results take about a month to see. Typically, you see new improvements after every treatment session, and over time, you should start to have less redness, blotchiness, sun spots, and age spots.

What are the possible side effects of IPL?

Most women and men notice mild, temporary side effects, like swelling, redness, blisters, bruising, or crusting. This should go away within a day or two after the procedure. You will be photosensitive, and excessive exposure to damaging UV rays will impact the treatment results. We recommend using sunscreen to protect your skin and help avoid skin issues, like redness and sun spots.

Do I need to prep for IPL?

For about 2 – 4 weeks, patients should avoid excess sun exposure and self-tanners, discontinue the use of minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline, or Retin-A/Renova, and stop taking blood thinners and anti-inflammatory medications. Preparing your skin will decrease your risk of developing bruises or other side effects. In between each treatment session, you should wear sunscreen to protect your sensitive skin.

Why should I get multiple IPL sessions?

We recommend a series of IPL sessions to achieve natural-looking improvements. Every treatment will help fade sun spots and hyperpigmentation. Additionally, multiple sessions provide longer-lasting aesthetic enhancements.
